VISIBILITY, RUNWAY VISIBILITY VALUE (RVV)

The visibility determined for a particular runway by a transmissiometer, a photoeletric device calibrated in terms of a human observer. A meter in the control tower provides a continuous indication of the visibility (reported in miles or fractions of miles) for the runway RVV is used in lieu of prevaivilng in determining minimuns for a particular runway. This program is gradually being replaced by RVR at transmissiometer locations.
