SHOCK TUBE
A relatively long tube or pipe in which very brief high-speed gas flows are produced by the sudden release of gas at very high pressure into a low-pressure portion of the tube; the high-speed flow moves into the region of low pressure behind a shock wave. The shock tube is used as a tool the study of gases or as a kind of intermittent wind tunnel.
