HAIL

Precipitation consisting of balls of irregular lumps of ice often of considerable size; a single unit of hail is called a hailstone. Large hailstones usually have a center surrounded by alternating layers of clear and cloudy ice. Hail falls almost exclusively in connection with thunderstorms.
