EJECTION CAPSULE

1. In an aircraft or manned spacecraft, a detachable compartment serving as a cockpit or cabin, which may be rejected as a unit and parachuted to the ground. 2. In an artificial satellite, probe, or unmanned spacecraft, a boxlike unit usually containing recording instruments or records of observed data, which may be ejected and returned to earth by a parachute or other deceleration device.
