CYCLONE
An area of low atmospheric pressure that has closed circulation. Tropical cyclones are smaller, on an average, than those of higher latitudes, and in many cases are the most violent of all storms, except tornadoes. Cyclones occurring in higher latitudes (extratropical cyclones), regardless of their source of origin, usually bring about marked changes of weather and temperature during their passage; their winds may be extremely high. Tropical cyclones are also called hurricanes (when violent), typhoons, or baguios. Extra tropical cyclones are commonly known as lows or depressions.
