CONVERGENCE

The condition that exists when the distribution of winds within a given area results in a net horizontal inflow of air into the area. In convergence at lower levels, the removal of the resulting excess is accomplished by an upward movement of air: consequently, ureas of convergent winds are regions favorable to the occurrence of precipitation.
