AUTOMATIC TERMINAL INFORMATION SERVICE (ATIS)

The continuous broadcast of recorded noncontrol information in selected high activity terminal areas. Its purpose is to improve controller effectiveness and to relieve frequency congestion by automating the repetitive transmission of essential but routine infromation.
