AIRPORT SURFACE DETECTION EQUIPMENT (ASDE)

Radar equipment specifically designed to detect all principal features on the surface of an airport, including vehicular traffic, and to present the entire picture on a radar indicator console in the control tower. ASDE has a maximum range of four miles, though its 16 inch diamenter scope usually displays an area of only one mile radius about the control tower.
